Should You Pull for Lighter?

This piece will discuss whether you should pull for Lighter in Zenless Zone Zero and give my opinions on the character.

Husbando collectors, it is time to rejoice. Lighter, the first limited S-Rank male agent, has finally made his debut in Zenless Zone Zero. Those of us who have been playing since the release of ZZZ have been desperately waiting for a limited male character to be released, and today we can finally have him. But the question now is, should we pull for him, and is he worth it?

What Does Lighter Do?

Lighter is an S-Rank Fire Stun Agent who can quickly apply Daze to enemies while also increasing the Stun Duration by 3 seconds and providing an absolutely ridiculous 75% DMG buff to the Ice and Fire elements. The buffs Lighter provides to both Ice and Fire are amazing, to say the least, but sadly they only apply to those two elements. Apart from them, Lighter can seem very underwhelming. His personal damage potential is low, and even at higher Mindscapes, he still only benefits his team, hardly increasing his own damage. He is a true bro in a sense, but that doesn’t really make him all that usable on the field.

In addition, he also prefers having low field time and then swapping out, which, don't get me wrong, is great for those who love a quick-swap playstyle but is definitely not for me. Wanting to add Lighter to my roster for quite some time and using him to punch enemies to death just doesn’t hit right anymore when knowing that he can’t actually do that. Can he still do damage? Yes, but not as much as Qingyi or any other character that’s meant to be used on-field.

Is Lighter Strong?

Damn well, he is. He is not the champion of the Sons of Calydon for a reason. That being said, he is only strong when he’s buffing Ice and Fire allies. Looking at the future of the game, Lighter will certainly be one of the premium characters you’ll want on Fire and Ice teams due to the huge buffs that he gives to them, and with more Ice and Fire characters coming in the future, if you’re looking at the long term, he is definitely an agent that you’ll want to have on your roster.

That being said, he’s practically useless right now if you don’t happen to have either Ellen or Soldier 11. The fact that HoYo decided to release a Fire and Ice boosting support when we only have 1 Fire and 1 Ice DPS, both of which are S-Rank and by no means F2P friendly, just feels like a slap in the face. Although Lighter is a great support, he cannot be used if you don’t have either of the characters listed above. And while he might be useful in the future, that is simply speculation. We don’t really know when we’ll get another decent Ice and Fire DPS.

As things stand right now, although I want him, I will be skipping on Lighter. He is certainly cool, and he is definitely a great support, but I just don’t feel like investing my Polychromes in a character I might not be able to use for the foreseeable future. Given the state of things, I’ll hold off on Lighter right now and wait for his rerun in future versions. Does this mean you should skip? Well, that is up to you to decide. If you have both Ellen and Soldier 11 and love using both of them, then Lighter will fit perfectly in both of their best teams and will certainly be a great improvement for both characters and is certainly a must-pull. For those of you who do not like using both Ellen and Soldier 11, Lighter might just be a skip for now.
