Well, Zenless Zone Zero Version 1.3 is finally here, and even amid the story bug on PC not allowing us to experience the whole of the new story that the game has to offer, we are able to spend our Polychromes for Yanagi without having to worry about anything. The question is, should we? I, for one, have already buckled and pulled for both Yanagi and her weapon. My main reason for doing so? Well, she’s just a ton of fun to play, and I’m a sucker for fast characters that incorporate some combo mechanics in their kits while having you press a ton of buttons. And I won’t lie, but Yanagi fits that perfectly. That being said, I know that not everyone will pull on playstyle alone but will also look for how powerful the character is and if they’re versatile enough to be used in several teams, which is what I’m about to discuss today.

Is Yanagi Strong?
The short answer to that is yes! Yanagi is really powerful. What makes Yanagi strong are the ridiculous numbers that she can hit using Disorder triggers. Yes, to do that she first needs a strong teammate who can allow her to proc to Disorder hits, but it doesn’t change the fact that Yanagi hits like a truck when built up. She can hit Disorder triggers of up to a million, with a follow-up Polarity Disorder of about 500k, hitting for 1.5 mil, and completely depleting enemies' HP bars. And that is not all, as you can trigger Polarity Disorders multiple times if you have the energy for her hold EX Special. This allows Yanagi to unleash a serious amount of damage during her burst window.
Having said that, thanks to those Polarity Disorder hits, she can also dish out a steady amount of damage that is even outside of her burst window, making her an amazing Electric sustained/burst DPS. If you’ve been using Anton until now, then believe me, you’ll be reborn when using Yanagi. Another thing that makes Yanagi good is that she isn’t reliant on the rest of the team to deal her damage. She can proc Disorder by herself, and she can buff herself well enough to not need any teammates. She is similar to Jane Doe in that aspect. In short, she is an amazing DPS that has a unique and fast playstyle while also requiring a lot of field time.

Is Yanagi Versatile?
When it comes to team building, Yanagi is certainly not the most versatile character. She’s not as versatile as Caesar, but she is also not as limited as other characters. She can be played in a variety of teams, with her most common team cores being the Disorder core featuring her and Burnice and her Shock core featuring her and Rina. However, apart from these, you can fit Yanagi in a lot of teams that feature either another Electric Agent or another Anomaly Agent. This opens up a lot of possibilities for Yanagi as opposed to agents whose Additional Ability is locked behind playing with Agents from the same faction. Even if you decide to stray away from her two base core teams, you can also play Yanagi with other Anomaly Agents from the Physical Element, such as Jane Doe or even Piper. Yes, you might find these teams a bit strange due to both Yanagi and Jane requiring a lot of field time, but they can still work, and they can still offer some thumbnail-worthy numbers. So when teambuilding and versatility are concerned, it’s safe to say that Yanagi is quite well off.

Should You Pull?
We’re finally at the last part. Should you pull for Yanagi? If you’re looking for a strong Electric DPS that is fast, requires a lot of field time, and packs two other big reasons for pulling, then yes. If you’re looking for a character that you’ll be able to swap in just for a quick assist and then out, or a character that is on the slower side, then probably no. While strong, Yanagi is not as game-breaking as Caesar. She is after all a DPS character, and those are the most prone to power creep. Yanagi is sure to be fully replaced in a year’s time, or even less, but if you do not care about that and want a powerful Electric character to get you through the game now, then Yanagi might just be worth pulling for.
