Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl offers a total of 12 Factions, and each of these groups has their own reasons for fighting with the others. Sooner or later, you'll have to start making decisions about which side to support. This is quite difficult considering that some Factions are way more powerful than others, and you don't want to pick the wrong side.

Throughout your journey in the game, you'll often stumble upon these groups, and they will sometimes be connected to missions, such as Warlock's Debtor quest. It's important to mention that Factions follow specific themes, and this is connected to the equipment that the Merchants around tend to sell.

This means that you'll be able to buy mostly items that are used by the members of the respective Faction. For example, if you need an AR416, you'll want to visit Freedom in Dark Valley. In case you're looking for Warsaw Pact weapons, go to the Loner bases.

The answer to the question of whether you can join Factions in Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl is both yes and no. On one hand, you'll be able to interact with those Factions, and if they decide to spare your life, you'll work with them. You can befriend them and help them complete certain tasks. The more you do for these groups, the more they'll like you. However, if you fail to finish a task or you kill any of their team members, you'll lose your reputation.

This will result in the group attacking you and even killing you if you're not careful. If this doesn't happen, then their merchants will simply increase the price of their items when you visit the shop. The color of the NPC icon on the map will show you the level of reputation you have with a certain Faction. Red is for bad, white is for neutral, and green means that you're in very good standing.
