Silent Hill 2: All Weapons and Locations
There are a total of eight weapons in Silent Hill 2, but only six of them are obtainable in your first gameplay. You can read on to learn about all the weapons in the game, where to find them, how to unlock them, as well as the best way to utilize their abilities. Let's get right into it!
Melee Weapons
Wooden Plank
Wooden Plank with nails at one end. Not very powerful, but easy to use. The first weapon James starts with. Only useful in extremely close-range combat and inflicts minor damage.
Location: Found in a cut-scene after starting the game in East South Vale.
Steel Pipe
Three-foot long steel pipe. Not very destructive, but good range. A better version than the Wooden Plank, switch to the Steel Pipe the moment you acquire it.
Location: Found in the hood of the running car at the Texxon Gas Station on Nathan Avenue in West South Vale, after leaving Rosewater Park.

Great Knife
Massive weapon wielded by Pyramid Head. Hard to use, but lethal. Heavy to carry at all times, so only useful in combat briefly. With this weapon, James can use the most powerful attack in the game, and it works well if combined with Hyper Spray.
Location: Found on the table in the center of Pyramid Head's lair inside the Labyrinth.
Chainsaw
Gas-powered chainsaw. Extremely high attack power. Unlocked after completing the game for the first time. It takes some time to start upon use, so this weapon works well with Hyper Spray.
Location: In a New Game Plus, the Chainsaw can be found stabbed into the stacked logs across from the Silent Hill Ranch in East South Vale, shortly after the graveyard.
Hyper Spray
Freezes enemies upon use for about 10 seconds. James takes a bit of damage every time he uses it. The color of the spray changes the damage it inflicts, with the green spray being most lethal by killing enemies instantly on contact.
Location: Once unlocked, in a New Game Plus, it is found on the table inside the camper trailer on the south side of the Saul and Harris Street intersection in East South Vale.
Unlock Method: Unlocked after as few as one playthrough or as many as three. This includes beating the game once on Hard Action Level, beating it twice on Normal, or beating it three times on any difficulty to try and get all the colors.

Firearms
Handgun
Maximum capacity 10 bullets. Light handgun. Not much stopping power, but easy to use. Requires James to have the Flashlight to be able to see it and pick it up. One of the most reliable weapons in the game.
Location: Found in the shopping cart in room 301 of Wood Side Apartments.
Shotgun
Maximum capacity 6 shots. Tough to use, but can attack opponents in a group. In a tougher combat setting, the Shotgun is a bit slow but will deal higher damage to a larger number of enemies at once. The closer you are to your target, the narrower the Shotgun blast gets.
Location: Found in the open locker inside the Women's Locker Room on the second floor of Brookhaven Hospital.
Hunting Rifle
Maximum capacity 4 shots. Takes a long time between shots, but each shot is very powerful. Much like the Shotgun, the Hunting Rifle has slow attack speed, but deals a good amount of damage from a greater distance more precisely, so it's good to save it for boss encounters.
Location: Found sitting on the gun rack in the armory room of the warden's office in Toluca Prison.

Born From a Wish Scenario
Revolver
Max load is 10 bullets. Easy to use but not much power. The only firearm in the scenario, but slightly more powerful and efficient than the Handgun in the main scenario.
Location: Carried by Maria from the beginning of the scenario.
Chinese Cleaver
Square-bladed knife. Ugly, but powerful and easy to use. The only melee weapon in the scenario, but quite fun to use. Can deal damage while stationary, and while running and attacking with it.
Location: Found stabbed into the Heaven's Night bar at the beginning of the game, and you won't be able to leave without it.
